LCSD Students Make a Clean Sweep in Lauderdale County's Spelling Bee!

  Congratulations to four students from the Lauderdale County School District for claiming the top four spots in The Meridian Star's 2019 Lauderdale County Spelling Bee! In all, 50 students from schools throughout the county participated in this year's event. Cannon Graham from West Lauderdale Middle School ultimately claimed the top spot. The 7th grader will now advance to the state spelling bee on March 13th in Jackson. The winner in the state competition will compete on May 26th in Washington D.C. in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
 
We're proud to announce that Ananya Mantri, who's in the 4th grade at Northeast Elementary, earned 2nd place in the local competition. She was followed by Sydney Shull and Mikayla Miles, who are both in the 6th and 5th grades respectively at Southeast Middle School.
