Two recent Lauderdale County School District graduates are the proud recipients of a 2019 Derek Pouncey Memorial Scholarship. Luke Thomas from Southeast High School and Luke Lott from West Lauderdale High have been awarded the scholarship for their involvement in athletics and the arts. Both students were active on their school’s football team and are talented singers.
The Derek Pouncey Memorial Scholarship was established by the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education in honor of Pouncey following his untimely death in 2014. The 1993 West Lauderdale High School graduate was a talented athlete, artist, teacher, coach, and leader. The scholarship was established to honor the Meridian native’s lifelong passion for the arts, athletics, and education.
