Pathways to Success

What is being done in Mississippi?

What is being done in Mississippi…

…to help the economy grow and reverse the trends of poverty and short-circuited education?
…to ensure that more people receive the education and training they need to get real, life-sustaining jobs?

The answer in Mississippi is Pathways to Success, a Mississippi Department of Education initiative. Pathways to Success is an essential program because it addresses the issues that are at the very core of Mississippi’s future, such as education, economics, and employment.

To be college and career ready in the 21st century, Mississippi students will have to start thinking about their futures earlier than ever. Pathways to Success aims to get students considering their career goals and postsecondary plans as early as elementary and middle school.

By the end of their 8th-grade year, all Mississippi students will have an individual Career and Academic Plan, or iCAP, in place to assist in planning their courses for high school.

This iCAP helps them target a Career Pathway that is within one of the 16 Career Clusters.
